Plays of the game: Washington’s Louis Rankin returned the opening kickoff 89 yards for a TD; Washington State’s Brandon Gibson caught the winning 35-yard TD pass from Alex Brink with 31 seconds left.
Stars of the game: Brink completed 27 of 40 passes for 399 yards and five touchdowns; Gibson caught two fourth-quarter TDs and finished with six catches for 137 yards and broke the WSU season receiving record.
Turning point: Gibson’s 35-yard TD catch.
Huskies highlights: UW jumped out to a 10-0 lead; Jake Locker rushed for 103 yards on 14 carries and threw for 224 yards and one TD.
Huskies lowlights: Six passes were dropped and a fourth-quarter lead surrendered.
Cougars highlights: Gibson’s two fourth-quarter TDs; Chris Ivory rushed 14 times for 114 yards.
Cougars lowlights: Surrendered first kickoff return for TD since 2001 and gave up 193 yards on seven kickoff returns; blown coverage gave Huskies 63-yard touchdown on Locker pass to Marcel Reece that tied score 28-28 in third quarter after two-point conversion.
Key stat: Brink threw for 399 yards and five TDs.
