NW Briefs | Seattle Pacific (22-0) makes regional final
Seattle Pacific took control in the second half to post a 2-0 victory Thursday over Cal State Los Angeles in the NCAA Division II Far West Regional semifinal soccer match.
Shannon Oakes and Janae Godoy scored for the 22-0 Falcons at Interbay Stadium. Seattle Pacific meets Incarnate Word of San Antonio, Texas, for the regional crown Saturday at 1 p.m. at Interbay. Incarnate Word topped Central Oklahoma 1-0 Thursday.
OTHER WOMEN’S SOCCER
Washington State sophomore Kiersten Dallstream was named to the first team of the All-Pac-10 squad, the first Cougar to earn that honor since 1998. Dallstream leads the Cougars with 10 goals and 24 points.
VOLLEYBALL
Jaime Anderson, a senior from Mount Rainier High, had a match-high 14 kills and 18 digs as Western Washington (22-4) was a 30-26, 30-19, 30-28 winner over Chico State (16-4) at the NCAA Division II Pacific Regional in San Bernardino, Calif.
The Vikings won their 17th consecutive match, a streak in which they have lost just four games. WWU, the No. 2 seed, advances to the semifinals today against third-seeded UC San Diego.
CROSS COUNTRY
Portland junior David Kinsella, an Inglemoor graduate, was second at the NCAA West Regional to earn a trip to Monday’s NCAA championships in Terre Haute, Ind. He finished the 10,000-meter course in Springfield, Ore., in 29 minutes, 45 seconds.
Portland senior Michael Kilburg of O’Dea was fifth, while Arizona State’s Jeff Helmer, a sophomore from Everett High, took 14th. Both qualified for nationals along with Kinsella in the race held last Saturday.
RECRUITING
Jackson High seniors Kristi Kingma, Ashley Todd and Danny Oh signed letters of intent Wednesday. Kingma, The Seattle Times’ Female Prep Player of the Year last season, will play basketball for Washington. Todd will play softball at Penn State and Oh will play baseball for California. It was incorrectly reported Thursday that all three signed with Washington.
• Brady McGuire of Kentridge signed to play baseball at Washington. It was incorrectly reported that McGuire signed with Washington State.
• Forward Stephanie Egwuatu of Auburn and guard Eryn Jones of Lynnwood signed letters of intent to play women’s basketball at Portland State.
• Paul Mitzel of Mercer Island signed with Washington State’s golf team.
• Christopher Cho of Kent, Jarred Bossio of Olympia and Stefan Richardson of Renton have signed with the Idaho men’s golf team.
• Felecia Harris of Kent and Kimi Pohlman of Sammamish signed with Washington’s fastpitch team.
• Karri Gallagher, a 6-3 post player from Lake Stevens High, signed to play women’s basketball at Sacramento State.
