Capsule Preview | Washington (3-6) at Oregon State (5-4)
What to expect: Both teams will try to establish the running game. The Huskies are coming off their best rushing performance in 11 years (388 at Stanford). The Beavers are without QB Sean Canfield; Lyle Moevao will start. But returning for the Beavers is starting RB Yvenson Bernard, who figures to try to carry the OSU offense in Canfield’s absence. Huskies may try some aggression on defense to rattle Moevao.
Notes: UW leads the all-time series 57-30-4, but OSU has won the past three, all at Husky Stadium. That includes a 27-17 win last season. … UW coach Tyrone Willingham is 3-5 against Oregon State, 0-2 while at UW. OSU is second in the nation in both sacks (3.9 per game) and rushing defense (59.6 yards per game). … OSU WR Sammie Stroughter, who had 223 yards receiving against UW a year ago, is out for the season with a bruised kidney.
Injuries: UW - FS Jason Wells (knee), LB Donald Butler (knee), S Nate Williams (hamstring), out. WR Quintin Daniels (knee) questionable.
OSU - QB Sean Canfield (shoulder), DE Dorian Smith (knee), WR Sammie Stroughter (kidney) out; G Jeremy Perry (leg), RB Yvenson Bernard (shoulder) probable.
Prediction: If the Huskies can get past this game, all that talk of still being in the hunt for a bowl begins to sound a little more realistic; two of the final three games are at home. But it won’t be easy - the Beavers are a tough, physical team, especially at home. The weather figures to be ugly, turning this into a smashmouth affair. Right now, that favors the Beavers. OSU 24, UW 17.
